12/17/2023 0 Comments Illuminations uci facebook![]() ![]() Q: As you reflect on what Illuminations has accomplished in the past three years, what stands out?Ī: I loved hosting Viet Thanh Nguyen, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Sympathizer and last year’s Chancellor’s Distinguished Fellow. What’s the biggest takeaway? Writing is alive and urgent, and reading books is a transformative and lifelong endeavor. Historian Jill Lepore is interested in our country’s founding documents and what they mean today. Colson Whitehead, a Pulitzer Prize winner and this year’s Chancellor’s Distinguished Fellow, will take a speculative approach to the history of slavery. UCI alumna Alice Sebold ’98 will talk about campus rape. Q: What do you hope the audience takes away from each author?Ī: Writers use their imaginative powers to address issues of major concern, from how and why black lives matter (Angie Thomas) to the shape of things to come (Ted Chiang). I believe a book club is a great way to bring our UCI community together in a shared activity. We have great faculty members here who are invested in these authors and eager to build reading communities. When we engage with a text, we can more fully appreciate the author who produced it. Q: Why did you decide to precede each author talk with a book club led by an English department faculty member?Ī: I want to make our authors’ visits as meaningful as possible. I wanted to build on this tradition by creating a series featuring great writers, all of whom work in different genres and address issues that are timely, important and significant to both our UCI community and the broader Orange County community. Q: How did the Illuminations Authors Series develop, and how did you choose each writer?Ī: UCI has a wonderful tradition of showcasing major authors. Here, Lupton discusses Illuminations’ three-year anniversary and new slate of events. Angie Thomas, who penned the best-selling young adult novel The Hate U Give, will kick off the series on Thursday, Oct. ![]() Through innovative programming such as “Shakespeare Goes to the Opera,” a master class with actor James Franco, gallery tours and more, Illuminations brings the arts to the campus and the campus to the arts.įor the 2017-18 academic year, Lupton has organized the first Illuminations Authors Series, in which a lineup of powerful writers will visit UCI to read from their works, each followed by an audience Q&A and book signing. Helmed by English professor Julia Lupton, associate dean for research in the School of Humanities, Illuminations: the Chancellor’s Arts & Culture Initiative has funded more than 400 activities and events and has served over 20,000 students and community members. Three years ago, Chancellor Howard Gillman proposed a program to expose students from all majors to the power of the arts and strengthen UCI’s connection with local cultural institutions. 12/17/2023 0 Comments Greenbelt metro station![]() These are all the garages around there, Cameron St is closest to the metro station (or NOAA). It's really only about 10-15 minutes past Union Stn. But if you were really worried, you could take a metro trip there one day to move it to another long-term spot. GSA plans for the site include the secure FBI facility and a mixed-use commercial development at the Metro station. I think long period probably is for abandoned cars, not 9 days. And overnight parking is allowed, they have plenty of spaces (and it is covered). If it were me, I'd park at the county garage at Silver Spring metro, as it's just a couple miles down of I495, and only costs about $8 a day (free on weekends). Maybe someone else knows, as that would save time from driving all over to find (or not) a multinight spot. However, you can take the line 11 bus to Greenbelt Metrorail Station at Bus Bay E, take the walk to Greenbelt, Green/Yellow Line Center Platform, take the subway to Lenfant Plaza, Green/Yellow Line Track 2 Platform, then take the subway to Pentagon, Yellow/Blue Line Track 2. I don't think they tow cars, but could if they thought it was left there long term (overnight they wouldn't). There is no direct connection from Greenbelt to Pentagon Station. If you are planning to park your car for 9 days NOT in one of the multiday spots, I'm not sure how risky that is in terms of parking fines, etc, possibly. I think theft is random and won't depend on that. It is cheap, sure as it will cost you about $5 a day and nothing on weekends, so maybe you will spend about $30-35? I don't know anything special about doing that for 9 days but have no reason that 9 days is inherently more dangerous than 2 days. The lot is much further away from the entrance of the station so you end up walking a lot more than at other stations with garages. The big parking lot is just that-a wide, sprawling lot with minimal shade. ![]() So if you go to Greenbelt first and don't find one, are you then going to drive out ti Wiehle or down to Franconia, and then to another spot? This metro station is the last one on the green line on the north end. I presume you know there is no guarantee you will get one of the multi-day spots, they are every limited in number (about 10 at Greenbelt, the most at Franconia). Springfield is really out of the way coming from Michigan. So I guess it depends how much you value your time. I presume you are doing this because it is cheap, but if you drove into the area and were near Wiehle on your itinerary, it is not trivial to drive to/from Greenbelt for no reason, this could add hours to your trip in total. If entertainment, dining or shopping are more your speed, you can catch a movie, enjoy a meal or hit the stores at Beltway Plaza Mall just around the corner. That doesn't really make a lot of sense to me given those stations are all over the place. There is so much to do here at Greenbelt Station. Grab your bike or just take a stroll along the trail, stop at the tot lot for a quick slide, or just chat with your neighbors while hanging in the park. Parking availability is included on Metro-operated parking lots and garages only. Commuting is a breeze as the community is just minutes from the Greenbelt Metro/MARC Station, Rt.1 and the Baltimore/Washington Parkway.Įnjoy spending time within the community with its spacious sidewalks and treelined streets. Just a short drive from the University of Maryland – College Park and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt is suitable for professionals and students alike. Conveniently located just off of I-495 at Greenbelt Station you can stay connected to everything you want and need. You can walk, drive or ride to your destination. MARC commuter rail trains on the Camden Line also stop at Greenbelt on a set of tracks parallel to the Metro tracks. ![]() The station is the northeastern terminus of the Green Line of the Washington Metro. ![]() Alternatively, you can take a vehicle from Fredericksburg to Greenbelt via New Carrollton Amtrak Station and New Carrollton Station + Bus Bay J in around 2h 46m. 39☀040N 76★440W / 39.011068°N 76.911011°W Greenbelt station is a Washington Metro and MARC station in Prince Georges County, Maryland. It's also kind of an animal rights movie, so I love it automatically for that, but it's also reminiscent of other classic 'boy befriends alien' (or animal) kids movies. The movie is a lot of fun the visuals are great, the critters are cool, and the action scenes are entertaining. Tripp teams up with Creech, and a friendly girl from school (Levy), to save this new species. Tripp also later learns that the ruthless oil businessmen want to catch Creech, and kill him, as well as other subterranean critters like it (which the oil company accidentally let loose). He also learns that the creature loves speed, and it can power his truck just like an engine could. He then befriends it, and names it Creech. One night, while he's working on his truck, Tripp finds an undiscovered subterranean creature resting nearby. Tripp is also fascinated by automobiles, and he builds himself a monster truck (out of old scrapped car parts) to leave town in. He hates his mom's boyfriend, who's also the town's sheriff (Pepper), and he really wants to leave town. It's also gotten mostly negative reviews from critics, but I really enjoyed it! Tripp Coley (Till) lives in a small North Dakota town, which is ran by big business (a ruthless oil company). It was made on a budget of $125 million, and it's only expected to make a fraction of that back (in theaters). ![]() The movie stars Lucas Till (of 'X-MEN' fame), Jane Levy (of 'DON'T BREATHE' and 'EVIL DEAD' fame), Thomas Lennon, Barry Pepper, Rob Lowe, Holt McCallany, Amy Ryan, Frank Whaley and Danny Glover. It's a good cycle card sure, but there's cards I would definitely take over it. Laser turrets crush those, can hit air, and generally deals well with most medium size units like succubus, whirly scrat, etc. A common weakness in draft decks is not having something to deal with big tanky guys like golems and colossus. ![]() Good players stop sending big threats alone once they see you have Lancers (or don't send threats alone in the first place). Stun Lancers die too easily to spells or 3+ enemy minions. Both of those are just generally very weak. Stun Lancers, Crossbow Dudes -> Tier C. It's basically a 2 mana scrat pack: takes both bridges and then dies to almost everything. Of course, there's a bunch of things I disagree with here, and I'm basing this on what I would prefer to pick if I were given these choices at the very start of a draft (no cards in my deck yet): You should merge the common and regular card lists because those are offered together in draft. I have a safe playstyle where I try to outvalue my opponent and win mid-late game which is why face cards (such as Zeppelin Bomber ot Rammer) that are only good for agressive decks that try to win early-mid game and why combo cards (such as Dragon Nest and Call To Arms) that are a bit of a gamble are ranked so low. Keep in mind that a tier list is usually pretty subjective. That being said I did 42 draft since I started and I have 8,1 win on average which I think is pretty good considering my winrate wasn't so good at first. If all the other buttons used in the program are blue, but in one window the button color used is green, most testers would recognize that inconsistency as a defect. A requirements document may indicate that an OK button will be used to confirm a change, but it may not indicate the color of the button. One common way to identify bugs used during testing is consistency. These are generally recognized using other types of information or rules of thumb. And, it may be tempting to define ‘defect’ as ‘any software behavior that is not described by the requirements document.’ However, most experienced software testers recognize that there will be defects that fall outside of the expected behavior defined by the documentation. Any place where the software is different from the specification might be a bug. The requirements documentation is a useful way to identify defects. Sometimes the specification is called an oracle because it acts as one possible source of truth. Any team member can refer to the requirements document to determine whether the software is working correctly. Requirements documents are usually written by some combination of the development team and the business stakeholders to explicitly state the business value that the software must present to the users. Testers often start looking for defects by reading a requirements document, then examining the software to determine whether it meets the requirements. ![]() One way to define ‘defects’ is to think about how testers identify them. This article will examine ways to define ‘defects’ and techniques we can use to identify them. But, how do testers really identify what’s wrong when testing a program? Are defects always incorrect behavior or can they be something unusual or something that’s not great? Recognizing defects isn’t always as straightforward as it seems, but studying how testers identify defects can help define what they are. ![]() Team members usually think of ‘defect’ as meaning something is wrong.
